How to Store Memory on Ready Boost?

ReadyBoost is an excellent feature which was introduced with Windows Vista, and later with Windows 7. You can use your external volumes as disk cache space. This can be done with Flash Drives, SD cards and external hard disk drives. ReadyBoost can be used on one device under Windows Vista, but you can add additional devices to Windows 7. ReadyBoost Requirements

To be able to use the device as a ReadyBoost aid, there are some requirements.

ReadyBoost requires that the minimum size of your external volume be at least 256MB. Once it has been formatted, 250 MB would be sufficient. Windows Vista's maximum size was 4GB. It has since been increased to unlimited by Windows 7.

Up to eight devices can be added to increase the total denomination to maximum 256GB. This additional memory would allow you to control many applications with complete control.

Access time should be very short. To ensure that the device can be used quickly, it should take less than 1ms.

The read speed must be at least 2.5 MB/sec, while the write speed should not exceed 1.75MB/sec.

ReadyBoost can be turned on or off

  • To make your external volume ready to be used for ReadyBoost, follow the steps below.
  • The pop-up Autoplay options will appear if you connect your external volume to the computer.
  • Click Speed up my System under the general section.
  • Click the ReadyBoost tab at the top of the Properties.
  • Three options would be available:
  • This device will turn ReadyBoost off, and you won’t be able use it as a ReadyBoost.
  • This device can be dedicated to ReadyBoost. The entire volume could be used for ReadyBoost, and the whole system can be used to enhance the speed of your system. Your system would be boosted, and files on your volume wouldn't be modified.
  • This device comes with a slider that allows you to limit the volume you want to use as ReadyBoost.
  • Click OK to save your selection and the ReadyBoost purpose would be applied to this device every time it is plugged in to your system.

Advantages:

People with low memory or processes that require more memory can expect amazing results. This was first tested on a system that had 512 Mb of RAM. It was the minimum requirement for Windows Vista.
