It's useful to find out if your computer runs on a 32-bit or 64-bit version of an operating system. These details can be found in a few different ways. Windows Vista

Follow the below steps to determine if Windows Vista is your computer's operating software.

  • You can choose to open the system window from the control panel to check if your system is 32-or 64-bit.
  • Click "Start".Type system in the search box and select "System" from the list. The details of your operating system will be displayed. It will be displayed under system type whether your system has 32-bit or 64-bit versions.

Another method is available to determine the bit count for your system. This is the method:

  • Click "Start"
  • Enter "system" in the search box to start, and then select system information from the list.You will find details by selecting system summary.

Windows XP

There are two ways to determine if your Windows XP computer is 32-or 64-bit.

  • Click Start and then Run.Click OK and type "sysdm.cpl". Now click on the general tab. The details of the operating system will be displayed along with specific details.
  • Click Start, select Run, and then type winmsd.exe.Next, click OK. Now select system summary. Locate the processor. To locate it, click on details and then on items. It is 32 if the processor starts with x86. If the processor is 64 bytes, it is 64-bit.

Windows Server 2003

There are two ways to determine the bit count for a Windows server-based system. You can always try the alternate method if you're unable to figure it out with the first.

  • Click on Start, then click Run. Type "sysdm.cpl" into the search box.Click OK. Next, go to the general tab. It will display the system details, regardless of whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. It will display Windows Server 2003 Enterprisex64 on 64-bit systems, while Windows Server 2003 Enterprisex64 is displayed on 32-bit systems.

Another Method Is Available To Locate The Details. This Is The Method.

  • Click Start and click Run.Enter "andwinmsd.exe". Click OK. Select the system summary. Select "Processor" If the processor value starts with x86, it is 32 bits. If it starts with EM64T and ia64, it is 64 bits.

These methods are not the only ones that you have. You can also find out the bit count for your computer by reading the manual.
