How Can I Uninstall Internet Explorer 8?

Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 from Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

These steps will allow you to remove Internet Explorer 8 from your computer if you have it installed.

  • In the search menu, type "Cmd.exe".
  • The screen will display a list of programs.Right-click on "Cmd.exe" to open a list of programs. Click "Run as administrator" If a password is required, enter it.
  • After right clicking in the administrator's interior, a window will open asking you for the command.Paste "FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo", in this window.
  • Upon pressing "Enter", Internet Explorer 8 will be installed.
  • To verify, restart the computer.

Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 from Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

This software can be uninstalled by following these steps:

  • Do the following command twice;

"%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe"

  • In the "Run” section of your start menu, type "Cmd.exe".The command will be executed by pressing "Enter".
  • Paste "%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe" in the window which will appear once you right click "Cmd.exe" window.
  • Pressing "Enter" will now uninstall Explorer 8.
  • To confirm, restart your computer.

Steps after you have uninstalled Internet Explorer 8

Once you have followed the steps in your particular software, restart your computer. After your computer has been restarted, you can follow the following steps:

  • Open Internet Explorer on your personal computer.
  • Click on the "Help" button. Next, locate "About Internet Explorer". Once you have located it, Internet Explorer 6 and 7 should now be visible in the dialog box.
  • Internet Explorer 6 and 7 will confirm that Internet Explorer 8 is not installed. Internet Explorer 6 and 7 will not open if Internet Explorer 8 has not been removed.

After Internet Explorer 8 has been uninstalled you might notice Application Event Log errors after each reboot. www.office.com/myaccount
