Highlight Rows Based On Cell Value with Conditional Formatting
With the built-in conditional formatting feature in Excel, you can quickly highlight rows that contain a cell value greater than or less than a specified value. Let's say you want to highlight rows with items that cost more than $1,500. To do this, follow these steps.
- Select a data range (A2:D12) that will highlight all rows based on sales value. Please note that do not include headers.
- On the Home in the Styles group, click Conditional Formatting > New Rule.
- In the pop -up New Formatting Rule dialog box, please do as follows:
In the Select Rule Type folder , select Use a formula to determine which cells to format. .
In the Format Values where this formula is true folder , enter the following formula: =$D2>1500 . Note: The dollar sign ($) in front of the letter in column D causes the rule to check each sale value starting from the 2nd row in column D (sales column).
Click on Format to open the Format Cells dialog box, and then set the color you want the row to be highlighted with on the Fill menu.
- Click on the OK buttons to close the two dialog boxes. Rows that meet the condition are highlighted immediately.
Highlight Rows Based On Cell Value With Select Specific Cells (Based On Two Conditions)

- On the CutTools in the Editing group, click Select > Select Specific Cells.
- In the pop -up Select Specific Cells dialog box, please do as follows:
- In the Select cells in this range folder, click the range select button on the right to specify the sales column based on which all rows will be selected.
- In the Selection Type folder, select the Entire Row option.
- In the folder Specific type section, set two conditions:
- Click the drop-down arrow on the left to select more than ratio, and then enter 1500 in the appropriate field.
- Click the drop-down arrow on the left to select less than ratio, and then enter 3000 in the corresponding field.
- Specify AND as a relation between two states.
