A WhatsApp spokesperson has told PTI that no accounts would be removed on May 15 for refusing to accept the new policy.

"No account will get removed by May 15 as a result of this update, and nobody living in India will be unable to use WhatsApp also. We'll follow up with reminders to users over the next few days," the spokesperson said in an email response to a question on Friday.

The spokesperson also said that even though the "majority of users who have received the new terms of service have accepted them" However, some users haven't been given the opportunity to accept them yet.

The company has not explained the reasons behind its decision, and also did not disclose the number of customers who have signed up to the terms so up to now.

In January of this year, WhatsApp had informed users about changes to its terms of service as well as its public policy via an in-app announcement. Users were initially given a time until February 8 to sign to the new conditions in order to be able to use the app.
